Jimmy Garrity heaped praise on his young charges after the TyneMet HE team defeated East Norfolk College by 3 goals to 1 in the BCS Knockout Cup final.
After bagging the North East regional title last month and advancing to the national competition, Garrity’s men pressed on and defeated Cardinal Newman College, Preston and Coleg Powys, Newtown on their way to the showpiece final at Doncaster Rovers’ Keepmoat Stadium.
“The lads could not have done a better job over the last few weeks, said Garrity “and this success is richly deserved given the great attitude, commitment and talent they have shown throughout this competition. This is a fantastic achievement in our first year, we’re the best team in the Country, I don’t need to say any more than that”

The ever professional team travelled down to Doncaster the night before the game to ensure the best possible preparation, and the tactic worked to perfection as the Tynesiders overcame a staunch East Norfolk outfit who pushed them all the way, despite the scoreline.
Mick McMullan and Stephen Forster put TyneMet 2-0 up before Josh Gunton replied nine minutes from time to set up a gripping finale to a fantastic clash.
Alex Redfrearn bagged a well taken goal in the final minutes of the game to seal victory for Garrity’s side and send his team-mates into raptures.
