North East Sports Academies: Launch Event

The North East Sports Academy (NESA) Launch Evening took place on Thursday February 28th 2008 at TyneMet’s Coast Road Campus. The evening was a great success with numerous high-profile local sports stars supporting the event. Peter Beardsley and Peter Ramage from Newcastle United, Mathew Tait and Mickey Ward from the Newcastle Falcons and England Women's Footballers Steph Houghton and Carly Telford were all in attendance, along with top amateur badminton players Sally Spendiff and Sarah Renton.

The sports stars spoke about the importance of gaining good academic qualifications alongside high-level sporting achievement, and how this can open up fantastic opportunities for progression, both in sport and in education. All were in agreement that NESA is a fantastic programme for young sportspeople on Tyneside, and they hoped that as many students as possible would take up the opportunity being offered.

We hope that those of you who attended enjoyed the evening and found out as much information as possible about The North East Sports Academy.
