Women's Football Academy achieves ECFA Category One Status

From September 2017, Tyne Metropolitan College’s Women’s Football Academy will become the first and only ECFA Category One Academy in Newcastle and Northumberland.

They will join their male counterparts in competing in the most prestigious college football league in England, a huge step up for the Women’s Academy.

The move will see TyneMet join some of the best college programmes across the country, proving beyond all doubt that the North East is a hotbed of Women’s Football.

Warick Stephenson, Head of Care, Sport & Leisure:

“It is great news for the Women’s Football Academy to have been accepted into the ECFA Category 1 league for the 17/18 season. The programme has grown steadily over recent years with a growing reputation for supporting both excellent academic and career progression.

“Category 1 allows our players to play at the highest possible standard against Colleges from across the North of England.”

Carl Chater, Head Coach NESA Women’s Football Academy:

“It will be a fantastic opportunity for the squad to test their abilities against the best in the country at the college level.”

The NESA Women’s Academy is looking for players ahead of the 17/18 academic year.
